Tim Kowalski.Mr. Kowalski discusses his work as a speech pathologist working with Asperger's Disordered patients. Asperger's Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder of childhood characterized by communication and social deficits. It is often thought of as identical to high functioning Autism (another, more severe disorder), but Kowalski differentiates the two disorders on the basis of social desire (Autistic individuals lacking the desire and skills to socialize, vs. Asperger's individuals having the desire to socialize but lacking the skills). The pattern of social and emotional deficits characteristic of Asperger's is described, as are ways that these deficits are measured and assessed, and ways that compensatory coping stratagies can be taught.

I am thankful that I found him! In just three visits he was able to give my son validation and teach him useful skills in managing his social deficits. My son is now a cook in the U.S. Navy. He has been able to maintain close personal relationships and achieve personal satisfaction with his success. He is a success story!!Thank you Mr.Kowolski

    TERRIBLE with TEENS - - Jan 17th 2011

He may be knowledgeable but we spent a lot of money to have him humiliate my teen son, shame on you.

    Fascinating Discussion - Michelle - May 23rd 2007

Thank you SO much for this very informative discussion!  Timothy Kowalski does a tremendous job describing AS for  people recently diagnosed WITH it to help understand themselves.  In addition to that, it is especially helpful for those 'dealing with' the person with that has it!   I especially appreciate his remarks near the end about how MISUNDERSTOOD the actions of an AS student can be viewed in a public school situation.  Thank you so much!
