DNA Dating: The Future of Matchmaking?

Elisha Goldstein, Ph.D. Updated: May 13th 2010

dna loveThe video begins by saying "Online dating is an estimated $1 Billion industry and now hard science is helping to make it easier to find true love." A company named Gene Partner claims to use DNA now to help you find your "dream date." Well, we've arrived, or have we? You can now get your DNA tested for $99 US to get a demo report that matches your compatibility with another person and find a "love connection."

In the video, there is a sample couple who tries this out. The results of their DNA test say they are 90% compatible with high attraction, interest and a good probability of a successful pregnancy.

The couple says from the date alone, they realized they were compatible. They also noted that from the results alone, they were more motivated to give the relationship a greater effort.

This is certainly interesting. While there have been many matches found from online dating, I have also met many people who say that they realize early in the date that it's not a match and feel that the rest of the date is an exercise in pleasantry.

I wonder if they were DNA matched if they might question their judgment that it's not a match and give it a greater try to see what lies underneath the initial date.

Here's the video for you to watch, you be the judge.

We can take this with a large grain of salt at this point, but it is certainly interesting and I believe this will likely have its hay day and we'll see how people react to it.

As always, please share your thoughts, stories and questions below. Your interaction creates a living wisdom for us all to benefit from.
