Biography of Janet Singer

Janet SingerJanet Singer's son Dan suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) so severe he could not even eat. What followed was a journey from seven therapists to ten medications to a nine-week stay at a world renowned residential treatment program for OCD. Janet and her husband were horrified when it became evident that many of the drugs and therapies used to help their son were actually hurting him.

Ultimately Dan's story is one of triumph and today he is a college graduate, working in his chosen field, and living life to the fullest. Janet is an advocate for OCD awareness and wants to spread the word that OCD, no matter how severe, is treatable. There is hope for all OCD sufferers.

Janet, who uses a pseudonym to protect her son's privacy, is the author of Overcoming OCD: A Journey to Recovery, published by Rowman & Littlefield in January 2015. Her award-winning blog, ocdtalk, currently reaches readers in 167 countries.

Janet was the official blogger for Beyond OCD from 2011-2013 and has been published on many mental health sites including the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and Mad in America. She posts regularly on mental health blogs and forums and was an invited speaker and panelist at the OCD Texas Conferences in 2011 and 2013.

But not everything is about OCD! Janet is a financial aid consultant "by day" and enjoys swimming, x-country skiing, and reading. She is married with three children and lives in New England.
