A Natural Approach to Treating Depression Web Series

Kathryn Patricelli, MA Updated: Nov 10th 2008

Dr James GordonJames S. Gordon, MD, author of Unstuck, is working to educate the public about natural approaches to treating depression instead of or in addition to using SSRIs, which sometimes don't work and have side-effects.  Dr. Gordon runs the non-profit Center for Mind-Body Medicine in DC and has been in the medical field for almost 40 years, teaching Self-Care techniques like mind-body health, physical exercise and proper eating. His book, Unstuck, discusses the drawbacks and effectiveness of prescription antidepressants and provides a comprehensive, natural approach.

The Mind-Body Medicine Institute is offering a free four part online web series called "A Natural Approach to Treating Depression," starting on November 18th and concluding on November 24th.  It includes four video classes plus free downloads, like a Workbook (PDF), an audio relaxation exercise (MP3), video demonstrating a relaxation exercise, and other materials - all for free.

The program includes:

Lesson 1 - An Overview of Depression and How You Can Treat it Yourself with the Help of a Guide on Tuesday, November 18th at 8:30 EST.

Lesson 2 - Relaxation/Stress Management on Thursday, November 20th at 8:30 EST.

Lesson 3 - Exercise and Movement on Saturday, November 22nd at 6:30 EST.

Lesson 4 - Other Useful Techniques and Advice for Participants on Monday, November 24th at 8:30 EST

Before the series begins, participants can go to the series' website and download the free Unstuck Pack, which includes the Unstuck Workbook & Journal to use with the course, an audio relaxation exercise for an MP3 player, a guide to relaxation and meditation to use with the exercise, a follow-along video, which visually demonstrates a relaxation exercise and an excerpt of the Introduction to "Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression." In addition, after the series, the lessons will be available for free download on iTunes and for viewing (or collecting the enbedding code to put on a site, blog, etc.) on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and possibly Veoh.

Trouble Signing Up - james - Nov 11th 2008

I am very excited about the class you are offering, and tried to sign up, but have been unsuccessful.  Is it possible there is a problem because I am using vista?  Any suggestions?
