A Bit of Humor that Can Change Your Day
Elisha Goldstein, Ph.D.: Thu, Aug 19th 2010
Humor has been said to be one of the greatest healing factors on the planet. It can turn a moment of tension into a state of relief. When we laugh our facial muscles stretch out and oxygen is sent throughout our bodies. Our bodies are also connected wiht our emotions, so as we laugh and the body opens up it creates an upward spiral toward feeling better. This can affect our entire day. Heck, you can even burn calories laughing.
So in the spirit of mental health, here is a little slice of humor that I originally heard from Jack Kornfield:
“A husband and wife from Chicago made plans to spend the summer in the Florida Keys at a rustic getaway. Because the wife was on a business trip, she had plans to meet him there the following day.
Upon getting there he immediately sent an email to his wife, but unfortunately because he left off a letter in her name of the email, it got sent to a recently widowed woman in Arkansas with the same first name.
When the grieving widow first checked her email, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
The email said, “Dearest Susan, I wanted to let you know that I have arrived on the other side and am doing fine. I was quite surprised to find they had email over here.
They tell me that you’ll be arriving very soon.
Until that time, love,
P.S. You should know, it’s quite hot down here.”
If that brought up a chuckle, notice what your body feels like and just take a snapshot of that.
What other bits of humor have you garnered that you can share with the community here. Passing one along, no doubt affects more people than you think.
Go ahead and share, you interaction provides a living humor that we can all benefit from.

One in four people is mentally ill. Think of three people you know. If they seem OK, you're it! ;-)
